Samara Deaton
b. 2003
Hi, I’m Samara Deaton, an oil painter from Lexington, North Carolina.
Growing up I was always amazed when seeing drawings or watching cartoons. I would trace images from coloring books and create 3-dimensional objects from cardboard. Initially, I wanted to become a fashion designer, but I realized in order to design clothes I would need to learn how to draw. As I learned from videos and practice, I soon realized that drawing was something that I wanted to pursue as my career.
In 2023 I did an internship with Stephanie Paige Thomson, an oil painter from Indiana. Once completed, I moved on to become the director of my work and then proceeded to win Best of Show at Pensacola Christian College’s Commencement contest. The major goal I have for my work to accomplish is a sense of feeling and a sense of bringing the viewer into the atmosphere of the painting.
Most importantly I want my work to be of the best quality to exemplify the characteristics of my Lord Jesus Christ. To bring Him honor and glory is foremost in my mind while working on a piece. As an experienced artist with a strive for perfection, abilities to complete the tasks at hand, and the passion to push my work further, I realized exactly what the Lord was calling me to do. Moving forward I desire to be able to teach others through workshops and videos, give others the confidence they need in their work, and have my work placed in galleries all around the globe.
